MY PHD PROJECT

Thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of PhD in Applied Linguistics

The aim of my PhD project was for IQNs to tell and retell stories of their positive and challenging workplace interactions with colleagues. I was interested in exploring how IQNs' professional identity may be shaped by reflecting upon their interactions with doctors, administrators, and fellow nurses.

Findings from this study may lead to greater understanding of how IQNs experience workplace interactions with colleagues in New Zealand healthcare facilities to identify the situations and conversations that make them feel welcome and encourage them in their choice to continue living and working in New Zealand. Participants' stories are a communication channel for IQNs’ voices to be heard and for aspects of their professional identity to be analysed.
